The roundabout has been in the planning stages since 2008, when a study was conducted on Amity Road. The design for the roundabout was presented to the public in 2009 during an open house, but the process was put on hold when development around the project didn’t happen as expected, according to ACHD.

Plans resumed in 2017 and are expected to be finalized in 2018. Construction is expected in 2022, though ACHD noted it could start earlier depending on future development.

Traffic counts at the intersection, which is now a four-way stop, are 934 vehicles in the peak hour of the morning and 1,033 in the peak evening hour. That’s expected to increase to 1,691 in the morning and 2,055 in the evening by 2040, according to ACHD.

The 2008 study of Amity Road included six intersections. Four of those intersections were determined to be good options for roundabouts including Linder, Ten Mile, Black Cat and McDermott roads.
