The Idaho High School Athletic Association Board voted 8-6 in favor of Kuna High School to compete at the 4A level for the 2018-19 and 2019-20 school years.

Data submitted to the Idaho High School Athletic Association supported that Kuna High School is best suited to compete and thrive at the 4A level in the SIC Conference and at the State level, according to a Kuna Joint School District press release.

Kuna High School varsity coaches met in August to discuss the possibility of competing at a 4A level. The coaches voted to move forward with the petition process. From a climate/culture, financial and competitive standpoint, the coaches believed that this was best for the students and programs.

“While I know this decision will be meet with mixed emotions,” athletic director Greg Carpenter said in the release, “this will place us in competitive posture with outstanding athletic programs and continue our tradition of strong school spirit and community support.”

Kuna High School has approximately 1,600 students with 14 varsity sporting programs.
