Kuna High School varsity football coach Sherm Blaser’s first win came via a 46-41 victory over Middleton on homecoming night.

Senior quarterback Danny Rogers accounted for 315 total yards and four touchdowns in the Kavemen’s first win of the season. He completed 15 of 19 passes for 302 yards and three touchdowns, while using his legs for another 13 yards.

His target of choice, senior Cris Quintero was equally as impressive. The senior wide receiver had five catches for 185 yards and two touchdowns, including the night’s biggest score.

With just less than three minutes left in the game and Kuna (1-1) up 40-35, it faced a fourth-and-two on Middleton’s 17-yard line. But Quintero saved the day, hauling in Rogers’ pass over his back shoulder in the corner of the end zone to give his team a late 46-35 advantage.

The Vikings (0-2) got the deficit back down to single digits at 46-41 after a 3-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Darin Post to senior wide receiver Hayden Smith with 47 seconds remaining. However, an onside kick recovery by Kuna senior Jantzen Archuleta ended the dramatic comeback attempt.

Kuna senior halfback Caden Cobb added three touchdowns in the win and nearly broke the century mark with 99 yards rushing. Senior receiver Jerome Miller tallied a game-high seven receptions and a touchdown.

The Kavemen will close out their non-conference schedule with a road trip to Rigby next week.
