BOISE 4, KUNA 3: Rylee Newman hit a home run and Lindsey Jones added a double, but Kuna finished with just three total hits, falling in a battle of top three 5A SIC teams Tuesday.
Kuna starting pitcher Mickey Kleffner walked the first four batters of the game, as the Braves took a 2-0 first inning lead. She was pulled in the top of the first inning before recording a single out. Newman took over and pitched the rest of the way for Kuna.
After falling behind 4-0 in the top half of the third inning, Kuna moved to within one on Newman’s home run in the bottom half of the sixth inning. But that’s as close as Kuna got, as Boise won its 11th straight game to remain unbeaten in conference play.
Macy Escobar and Taiana Round each had two hits apiece for the Braves in the win.
MELBA 4, NAMPA CHRISTIAN 0: Sammi Runkle allowed two hits while striking out 11 as Melba topped Nampa Christian in 2A WIC play.
Andrina Webster had a two-run single for the Mustangs during Melba’s three-run third inning.
KUNA 7, CENTENNIAL 1: Rylee Newman and Mickey Kleffner combined to strike out 13 as Kuna topped Centennial in 5A SIC play.
Newman struck out six in four innings, allowing four hits and one run. She also had a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Kleffner pitched the final three innings, allowing just one hit and striking out seven.
MELBA 7, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 0: Sammi Runkle struck out 12 while holding Cole Valley to three hits, and also drove in a run at the plate as the Mustangs won in 2A WIC play.
Camille Bangerter had two triples and an RBI in the win.
MELBA 5, NAMPA CHRISTIAN 1: Cameron Goetz struck out six on the mound, while Tim Reinertson had two hits and a pair of RBIs as Melba topped Nampa Christian in 2A WIC action.
Luke Tuttle drove in the Trojans’ lone run on a first inning groundout.
BOISE 3, KUNA 0: Ross Blattner had two hits as Kuna suffered a 5A SIC loss.
KUNA 4, CENTENNIAL 3: Issac Haws drove in the walk-off run, reaching base on an error as Kuna picked up the 5A SIC win.
AJ Fraker and Tyler Gossman combined to hold Centennial to three hits in the game.
MELBA 11, COLE VALLEY CHRISTIAN 8: Tristen Stimpson had three RBIs and Eli Bangerter added two as Melba won in 2A WIC play.
MELBA SWEEPS BUHL: The Mustangs picked up a non-conference doubleheader win over the Indians, winning 14-9 and 15-8 Saturday.
Mark Stradley and Tim Reinertson both had two-run doubles in the ninth inning, as Melba broke a 9-9 tie with five runs to take the opener in extra innings.
Reinertson had three hits, including a double in the nightcap, while Eli Bangerter also added three hits and drove in three runs to cap the two-game sweep.
TRACK AND FIELD
The Kuna girls 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams each took home titles. On the boys side, Skyview’s Taylor Thuernagle picked up wins in the long and triple jumps with marks of 21 feet, 3 inches and 43-5.5 respectively, and the Hawks’ 4x200- and 4x400-meter relay teams finished in first place.
